Color Study

Red Fire Hydrant; 4-30-2011, 4:00p.m.; Rexburg, Idaho; f/3.4; 1/15000

Red Study Time; 4-30-2011, 4:06p.m.; My Apartment, Rexburg, Idaho; f/3.7; 1/30

I chose to use the color red as my focus for this color study. I like how the red really pops in each of the images. My favorite picture in this post is probably Red Shack. I used a deeper depth of field to keep both the fence and the building in focus. I also like the Fire Hydrant shot. I had some good lighting outside, the first real sunshine I'd gotten in a few days. I like old look on the hydrant created by the rust. I tried to use a shallow depth of field to blur the background a little bit, but I wasn't having much luck. The other two shots, Umbrellas and Study Time, were just things I found trying to keep an eye out for some red shots to take.

Cutouts

Full Cutout

Partial Cutout

I took this picture of my car. The sun was bright, so I used a quick shutter speed. For the full cutout, I used the quick select tool to cutout the car. I softened the edges and added a small feather to create a smoother cutout. For the partial cutout, I used the rectangular marquee to create a white box at the bottom of the picture and put that box on it's own layer. I then cutout the cement and put the rest of the image on its own layer. I then place that top layer over the white box created earlier.

I don't feel like much of a photographer, but these are a few images where I feel like I got a little bit luck and got some decent shot. The Uke picture was an image I used for a project in my Visual Media class semester. I used the macro function on my camera to focus on the gold wording, then moved into position. I used the same technique for the Modern/Classical Music shot. My two nieces was taken very quickly just using the automatic selection on my camera. The two girls had both fallen asleep and I had to act quick before either of them stirred. The other two shots, Temple and Lane's First hours were taken with my Iphone at moments where I had forgotten my camera. I was just glad I got some decent shots in.
